It can occur at any time.For example, a few people experience aches in their ears due to cold. It can also be the side effect of sinusitis, which can also be the reason for headaches, tooth pain, neck pain and jaw pain. Ear pain during cold is one of the most common types that people experience. However, you can control it with the help of a few home remedies. If the pain is sharp followed by fever or other symptoms, you should immediately seek the help of a doctor.What Are The Best Natural Remedies For Ear Pain?

Karna Purana (Oiling Ear)

In Hindi, Karna Purana refers to applying or pouring drops of oil into your ear. Different types of oil have been found to help with the pain, fight infection and keep the ear clean.

Clove Oil

Boil clove oil with a teaspoon of sesame seed oil.Let it cool down.Filter the oil, and pour two-three drops into the affected ear using a dropper.

Tulsi Oil (Holy Basil)

Tulsi or Holy Basil is one of the most revered ingredients when it comes to home remedies. It is loaded with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties. It can help bring down the infection and relieve pain.


Crush a few dry leaves of Tulsi using a mortar and pestle. Strain the juice and pour two drops of it in your ear, which is troubling you.

Tea Tree Oil

[photo2]According to Ayurveda, tea tree oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, it is considered one of the most effective remedies you can try for ear pain at home.


Mix two drops of tea tree oil with a teaspoon of base oil like olive oil, coconut oil or sesame oil. Mix the oils well and pour two drops of the mixture into the infected ear to soothe the pain.

Olive Oil Or Sesame Oil

The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) recommends olive oil to be an effective home remedy to treat mild to moderate pain in the ear.


Warm a teaspoon of olive or sesame oil.Allow it cool, and pour 1-2 drops of it into the affected ear. In all the above cases, make sure to check the temperature of the oil before pouring.

Reduce Inflammation Outside Of The Ear


[photo3]Garlic has anti-inflammatory properties. It has been associated with relieving pain and congestion.


Mash 2-3 cloves of garlic.Add a pinch of salt and allow it to rest for a few minutes. Place the paste in a cloth and massage the inflamed regions of the ear with it.

Extract juice for raw and fresh ginger pieces in a mortar and pestle. Strain the liquid and use it on the skin near the infected area to find relief from pain.

Jal Neti

Jal Neti is a process to clear the sinus. You have to sit in squatting position or bend forward if you want to perform it standing. Pour saline water into the Neti pot, place the spout into one of your nostrils and let the water flow. Keep the chin upwards and mouth open to keep breathing. Adjust the head in the direction in which water starts flowing. You have to continue until the water is finished.


Steam a few drops of eucalyptus oil in water to do Jal Neti. It will clear the sinus passage that has been impacting your ear and causing pain. All the above processes are not helpful if the pain is due to an underlying condition or if it is followed by other symptoms. In case of severe pain, you must seek immediate help from the doctor.
